30 Stunning Digital Cartoon Illustrations

The word cartoon refers to several very different forms of visual art and illustration. A cartoon was originally a preparatory sketch or drawing for a piece of art – particularly paintings and tapestries.

In modern digital art, cartoons are brought to us in many different forms – from the sketched, postcard-type drawings, to the Disney-style vector characters, even to finer art, and not forgetting the Japanese-style Anime and Manga cartoons.

Many of today’s cartoons are based on existing films, TV shows, console games, etc., however, some are straight from the artist’s imagination or inspired by a child, a pet, a situation, etc. Usually, but not always, cartoons are based on humor.

Here is a collection of 30 outstanding cartoon illustrations falling into all of the categories mentioned in this introduction.

Some of these are pretty good, but a few of them are just badly drawn. That Naruto one especially. I think someone is a little too big a fan of the burn tool. Those colours are just hurtful to the eyes. I don't find that cat or the Steve Irwin one very well drawn either, let alone 'stunning'.

    Great collection!

Just a quick note though; all of the ones labeled as by "Bakanekonei", except for the first one ("Beyond Wonderland"), are actually by the artist J. Scott Campbell. Bakanekonei (aka Nei Ruffino) did the coloring, but Campbell did the lineart :) The lineart for "Beyond Wonderland" was done by Eric Basaldua.

Most of these arent really stunning at all. Why do people always feel the need to use the big adjectives, rather than realistic ones?

    Wow, the Steve Irwin cartoon...
Respect, honour and humor combined perfectly.
I never thought of it, but he'd actually poke an angel like it was some croc.... just to see how it reacts.

    This drawing feels so right!
You turned a tragedy into a respectful and humourous memorial and you nailed it big time!
Please be proud Shinga. you combined the incompatibles so perfectly that it seems logically... but nobody thought of it before.

    You rock!
    You rock so freaking hard!
